John has written three books about the practice of law and the legal profession (click on the book title for more information):

  • The Art of Practicing Law: A Practical Guide for Lawyers.  This book fills the gap between the skills learned in law school and the additional skills and attributes that are needed to be highly effective as a lawyer.  The book provides practical guidance, with specific examples, on a number of topics to help lawyers sharpen their interpersonal skills and master the art of practicing law.

  • Transforming the Practice of Law: Reclaiming the Soul of the Legal Profession.  This book is written for people who care about the future of the legal profession and the well-being of lawyers in the United States.  The book presents an in-depth analysis of the reasons for the high rate of stress among lawyers and the low  public esteem for the profession, and suggests specific reforms to create a better future.
